Jinja Ss Wins Opening Game Cricket Week Campaign

Winning the toss, Jinja SS put Mwiri SS to bat first at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. There were glimpses of brilliance from Innocent Mwebaze’s 36 note-out with Mwiri settling with their 99 runs in their 20 overs. It was a team display for Jinja as they chased down 99 with 2 overs to spare and picked a three wicket victory.

Head Coach Habib Mugalula hoped Jinja could put their Batting challenges to bed. “A few runs were leaked I would say, and we didn’t take our chances especially the few catches that were given to us. Besides even the balling, much as it was tied, still there were some loose balls.” Said, Habib Mugalula – Cricket Coach, Jinja SS. Calvin Watuwa the Captain of Jinja SS shared the same view. “The pressure they had in the game was because of the batting because the forefront people were not able to do their role. It put pressure on the downer people.”

The two teams were in Group A with Masaka SS, Soroti’s Olila High School, Kyambogo College and Aga Khan. Mwiri’s Head Coach Emmanuel Issanez remained confident and believed they would bounce back. “I expect as a Coach to see our kids play more serious cricket than the last year.” Said, Emmanuel Issanez. Other results saw the defending champions Mukono Parents fall to Nyakasola School while Kololo needed only 8.1 overs to chase Kilembe. The scores cricket week will run until 1st September 2017 and will be played at various grounds including Lugogo, Kyambogo, Budo, Gayaza among others.
