Black Pirates sit top of the National League Standings but Betway Kobs are breathing down the necks of the Sea Robbers. a hard felt 19-12 win over Toyota Buffalos kept Kobs within touching distance of their legend neighbors. The win secured by half first Adrian Kasito, Simon Makumbi, and Ian Munyani piled comparison onto Pirates bonus win away to Plascon Mongers in Entebbe. Kobs legend Adrian Bukenya, however, believes the win was pivotal as it keeps the title race alive or beat between two teams.
“It’s a year that we should actually look out beyond the drama that is playing out in the title race but more with hope. Because when you look at the players who are playing currently are all relatively new. If you look at the team front lining which is the Pirates really the title is in their hands in terms of controlling their destiny. They have been showing a lot of strong attitude over the cross of the league.” Said, Adrian Bukenya – Former Rugby Cranes Captain.
Kobs have a difficult title run in the two endings in 5-weeks’ time when they play Pirates in what could be a winner takes all match. While kobs’ fans will be eager to see their side make amends for a shocking 28th – 11th first round loss at the hands of Pirates. Bukenya says his former side should take it a game at a time. “There is no easy game in this particular season so the way we are going with the next 5 rounds to go, my anticipation is that there is going to be a lot of exciting rugby for the fans to see. They should actually start out watching for the people who are playing because these are all new names. Looking at the way Heathens has performed, the way challenges are being had by teams like Rhinos and Kobs, it’s the teams that have had young energetic players who are starting to show cause.” Said, the former Rugby Cranes Captain.
When it comes to the running to the title, Bukenya reckons that Kobs do have the pre-degree to get the job done. “Every team at this moment in time is trying to demonstrate that they are capable of winning and actually in this year’s league it looks like any team can actually win any game. The form team, however, is Pirates and we have got to acknowledge that. And I think it’s upon them to maintain that form through the tail end of the season if they are aspiring to be successful at the end.” Black Pirates lead the National Standings by 2 points. And with only 5 games left before the curtain comes down to the season, it promises to be an intriguing finale.
