Going into the match, Coach Steve Dekolo demanded the standout individual performers from the Qatar League of the Two Inland Tour of Uganda to Asia not to rest on the Royals. The trio of Dulis Muhumuza, Simon Ssesazi and Ham Kayondo who picked up the man of the match awards in the five-match Bilateral Cricket Series against Qatar continued to show hunger on the tough and once again made it to the Dias at the Sanjay Farm Oval.
Right arm opener Ham Kayondo ensured that Uganda made it a clinical 4 in 4 with his second-half turn of 56 runs not out of 46 balls and Dekolo’s troops chased down the target of 116 for the loss of one wicket in just 15.3 overs. “In the N-Series, one would take 4-0 looking at the conditions we are playing in. Obviously slow turning wicket I guess the boys are gaining a lot playing on slow turning wickets. And as we know Malaysia could be the same conditions so for it’s a learning curve for the boys. I think also when you look at things like team strategy, team plans and all that; there are a number of things we are trying to execute.”
Surat district 11 expertly shuffled five spinners who balled different sighting variations and Duly Uganda’s batsmen but captain Roger Mukasa constructed an 89-run opening stand in just 11.3 overs with Kayondo to lay out a platform for left-hander Dinesh Nakani who sealed the match with 16 quick fire runs including two boundaries to maintain the Cricket Cranes un Blemish record. “Series is not easy because we are playing a lot of spins and we had the challenge to play spins and the spinners are not better than Qatar ballers. So we think we have a big challenge and even the wicket is turning so much. So I think the boys are improving and we are trying to work on the spins because here the problem is spins and that what we are working on.”
