West Bromwich on football development and Sponsorship officer Jonathan Ward and UEFA B-License Academy Coach Dave Lawrence have traveled over 4,000 miles from the United Kingdom to Kampala to equip the young boys and girls with skills of the beautiful game. Excel Soccer Academy of all races, ages, sizes, and kinds picked whispers of these once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the best “I want to try and encourage players to play forward and attack. So am trying to get the players to understand that we I receive the ball, trying to play forward so the first thing that I need to do is that to recognize the space we call it checking shoulder.” Said, Dave Lawrence – UEFA B Coach (Wesbrom).
These foreigners are specialists in dealing with the underprivileged. Dave appreciated the talent existing in even the most unfortunate localities. “I think for the African players it is important to use role models that may have made the journey previously so some relate to players like Adebayor, Drogba, we have a player Allan Niyam he plays for West Bromwich Albion he is from Cameroon. It is important to use these players as role models and benchmarks and also to realize that if they have been able to do it then there is no reason these children can’t do it either.” Said Dave.
What these men from the West presented to these young kids was beyond just the round figure they were kicking. The kids were also endowed with life skills that would perhaps come in handy in their future lives even away from the game said Excel Academy Director Patrick Gwayambadde. “Camp that will be proving for young kids to enjoy their football but as well as develops in some of the skills that the coaches involved will be implementing.” Said, Patrick Gwayambadde – Director Excel Academy. “I like what I do. It is easy; passing...” “I learned to give passes to the other and I have learned how to make ways where you can pass the ball from.”
