Shafic Ssebuuma Relishing Shot At Amputee World Cup

When you find Shafic Ssebuuma it is difficult to notice that he has an artificial limb not until he lets you know. Shafic says he was injected with expired drugs during childhood that led to the rotting of his leg hence being amputated. A clinic operation went bad vanished what would have been a dream in football. In amputee soccer, he found an alternative. “My family thought that my sports future is gone but later due to the introduction of amputee soccer am now a player of Kampala Fudistars, am a Coach of Kawempe division and I have gained a lot in sports.” Said, Shafiq Ssebuuma – Amputee Footballer.

Uganda’s growth in amputee soccer has championed another direction and now he intends going professional. One man’s ordeal is another man’s game. The passenger seat of his world cup vehicle is Kitimbo Lawrence President of Uganda Amputee Soccer Federation. “And we have many hopes because our federation is going fast. What I can assure you of is that we are strong, we are capable, and we are focused. We can make it as I told you we are the youngest federation and the fastest growing; that’s on record East and Central Africa.” Said, Kitimbo Lawrence – President UASF.

The sport in Uganda was introduced by Scholar Opolot who worked with Uganda National Disability and the DANISH partners as one of the disability sports but later outgrew a humble frame into a federation size with a body instituted in 2017. “Am so cushy that it attracted so many crowds and it has really mobilized for us more persons with disabilities to come on board. Amputee soccer is still a new game but we believe that with the awareness that we started in 2014 as a result of the project we shall spread it. We went ahead as an organization also to build the capacity of an individual to form a federation that is Uganda Amputee Soccer Federation.” Said, Scholar Opolot – UNAPID EXCOM Member.
