Ndejje University Dominates Day One Of The Inter-University Games With 6 Gold Medals

World University Gold Medalist Sadiki Bahati won Ndejje University its first Gold Medal on day one of the 2017 Housed Games Athletes Championship. Bahati took the step in the Men’s 10,000 meters with his teammate Ezra Mutayi coming in second. Bahati believes his win was a stepping stone to a bigger show next season. “Am setting a goal now since I have been succeeding this year 2017 so now am targeting 2018 to perform much better than this year.” Said, Sadiki Bahati – Athlete, Ndejje University.

It was a good day for Ndejje as Dorcus Anjoku also won Gold after beating Kampala University’s Halima Nakaayi in the 15 hundred meters. Nakaayi said she was using the University Games to test her endurance ahead of the 2018 Common Wealth Games. “It has been a great opportunity for me because I have used it as just to check on my endurance and I have finished in the second position of which my endurance is okay and am now yet to compete in the Common Wealth Games.” Said, Halima Nakaayi – Athlete, Kampala University.

Women Volleyball was temporarily suspended pending a hearing of a petition by Uganda Christian University over allegations that Kampala International University was using machinery players. Meanwhile, Ndejje University Men’s Volleyball team eliminated Makerere University with a 3-1 set score in the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, Uganda Christian University beat Nkumba by straight sets. In Netball; Kampala University, Ndejje, Uganda Christian University, Nkumba and Makerere University Business School will face-off in the quarterfinals.

“Games like Handball both Beach Handball and Regular Handball, Tie-Kondo, Karate, Netball, Athletics, Badminton, Table Tennis were standing so well.” Said, Augustine Mugalu – Sports Trainer, Kampala University. The games continue tomorrow with the finals in Athletics, Swimming, and Volleyball among other events.
