Late last year, at the peak of the controversial age limit debates, bombs exploded in the homes of Makindye East legislator Allan Sewanyana, Lubaga North legislator Moses Kasibante and Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi in an identical manner. To this day, Police investigations have yielded no conclusions. Police conduct on previous investigations is loose to the current crime episodes he says. "Personally I was attacked with bombs here, the police came and did their investigations and not a single report was given. Many murders have been going on from common people to high profile people. Nothing is happening, today with the unfortunate murder of Hon. Abiriga, it shows that not even the biggest person in this country is safe.” Said, Robert Kyagulanyi – MP, Kyadondo East.
“What I know is that sometimes people are impatient, they want an investigation done over one day and completed and sometimes not possible. But we take time to explain and that falls within my docket. So if it’s not being done well, I will need to look at what am doing so I can improve.” Said, Emilian Kayima – Police Spokesperson. Talking to NBS from his Magere home, Kyagulanyi castigated what he sees as relaxed manner from the Head of State at the height of such incidences. “We are missing the point because the government’s main occupation is to maintain the regime in power not to serve in the very important sectors like security. Now, for as long as the president and his convoy is secure they claim Uganda is secure. The president was talking about security just a few hours ago and yes this is the kind of security he was talking about. When we say there is no security we mean there is no security at all angles not just in big people’s palaces but within us.” Said, Robert Kyagulanyi – MP, Kyadondo East. “We treat each case on its own merit but one case could point us to the other. We are a very open-minded Police Force in security apparatus and for his information and the others, on Monday the senior leaders in the security sector will address the nation in as far as these security issues are concerned.” Said, Emilian Kayima – Police Spokesperson.
From kidnaps for ransom to series of murder by shooting, the current security environment is a trigger yet with no answers calling into question the role of the legislative arm of government where he prominently features to check the responsible security organs. “Our parliament is more or less a talk show, the way Uganda is, it will take more than just demands, it will take action. It has been exposed that many of the crimes are actually carried out by security operatives we have seen it over and over.” Numbers of public and high ranking figures are fast falling. Hon. Abiriga’s death adds to those who are in statistics.
