It is a reunion of former brothers in arms. Former Uganda Young Democrats who had parted ways over differences and opinions were back together to campaign for and promote the Democratic Party the institution that had nurtured their political careers. The leaders decided to put aside their differences and plan a UYD Aluminous Reunion slated later this month at Makerere big grounds. Many former leaders of UYD were students of Makerere University. The goal is to ensure the Democratic Party takes a front seat in the forthcoming elections. “We are well tested, we have been tested for lack of selfishness. We supported Mr. Museveni in his bush war struggle, we thought that he was going to deliver Uganda, he hasn’t. We supported Dr. Besigye to deliver Uganda, he has not accessed the state power as yet. We supported Hon. Amama Mbabazi, he didn’t access State House. And because of this kind of good will, we feel it is our time now that people think about us.” Said, Dr. Lulume Bayiga – Member DP.
Many former UYD members have gone onto prosper with the country’s politics. The reunion will be a platform to bring together all these estranged leaders. “Our reunification is to bring together all these talents and all these capabilities that have gone and all these experiences that previously were not meeting to confer to one platform once again. To make DP great again.” A team of fifteen people will after the reunion they will be sent to different countries to strategize on how best to move Uganda’s oldest servicing party forward.
