Hundreds of supporters and well-wishers of the Democratic Party DP met at the Makerere University main ground for the grand reunion organized by founder members and former members of the Uganda Young Democrats the DP Youth Wing. Members of Parliament mainly from DP and other politicians from other political parties graced the event. Unity in the party was high on the agenda. “I am here for one course that is unity. As many people are aware that as Democratic Party we had so many factions as a result of indifference we have but that cannot stop us as Members of Parliament to unite together for a common cause.” Said, Lutamaguzi Ssemakula – MP, Nakaseke South. “This is one of my happiest moments in life because all the demons that were disturbing us, coming to our brains with some members have all come back. You see what we must know as members and all supporters of the party; the party is stronger than a person, someone should not be stronger than a party.” Said, Joseph Ssewungu – MP, Kalungu West. "This is life back to the Democratic Party, the divisions that we had, whoever had bewitched Democratic Party has now collapsed. Life is back into the Democratic Party, all that had divided themselves, I am happy that they are back." Said, Robina Ssentongo – Woman MP, Kyotera.
The DP’s diehards retaliated with their desire to ascend to Uganda’s Presidency after several years of backing other political parties. DP was formed over 60 years ago but only formed a government for about a year before independence in 1962. “Let them not misunderstand what we are about. We are not about for a small war and that’s why I request members of the Democratic Party, this time give us a chance, give yourself an opportunity to be the party to lead the way.” Said, Muwanga Kivumbi – MP, Butambala. "We should continue with that journey uphill until we reach the Promised Land. To fail does not mean you are a failure, it is a wrong definition. To fail means to learn from what has happened to make a better way forward." Said, Lyandro Komakech – MP, Gulu Municipality. “And the new conversation is such that by 2021, the new kids on the block must take over this country. And we must start now, let people understand us very well.” Said, Dr. Lulume Bayiga – DP Member.
President of People’s Development Party Dr. Abed Bwanika rushed out the DP leadership and the Buganda Kingdom for losing out the presidency despite the party’s prominence. “DP and Buganda are to blame. Where were they when other people were taking power?” Said, Dr. Abed Bwanika – President, PDP. Bwanika blamed DP for supporting other parties yet it is capable of taking power on its own. “These people are after titles and lower positions not taking over power.” Kenya's top opposition leader Raila Odinga was expected to be the Chief Guest at the event but he did not show up as well as other DP prodigal leaders including Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze.
