Nagenda Advises President Museveni To Groom Successor

79-year-old John Nagenda has a reputation for not mincing his words and this was clear when he spoke to NTV at his home in the Kampala suburb of Muyenga on Friday. “Am now praying to God which I hadn’t done for very many years and am saying to God, Please God talk to my boss and let him listen to you because he is a Christian and let him do what you tell him and this country be what he fought for and so many other friends of ours fought for.” Said, John Nagenda – Presidential Advisor on Media.

Nagenda who said is an NRM follower said the party has got members who are more than capable of taking Uganda forward. “Don’t get me wrong, the President has done fantastic work for this country and I admire him and I love him for it. But there comes a time when even the best dancer leaves the dance floor.” Nagenda was opposed to plans to hold a referendum to amend the Constitution to extend the President’s term of office from 5 years to 7 years. “My Movement which I love dearly, which I have loved dearly saying there is going to be a referendum. Therefore, I completely disagree with the referendum. We are a poor country, we have so many people stealing even the little money that we have got. Why don’t we give that money to schools for kids to eat, why don’t we put it into hospitals which have got very little medicines, why don’t we improve more on the roads that we are improving?”

Nagenda who still serves as a Senior Presidential Advisor said President Yoweri Museveni had earlier committed himself to step down after 35 years in power. “He had said the end of 5 years that would be enough. To then hear this mpa nkuwe; you give me I give you. But surely the best way of spending those 3 ½ years is to train somebody in the very difficult job of running this country.”

He said a group of selfish Ugandans was beginning to scamper for power and that explains the ongoing insecurity in the country. “People are beginning to flex their muscles to see who will be there in case we get a terrible accident or incident and our President leaves us. Think, where you have general confusion, this is the best climate on the best position for bad people in which to exercise their badness.” On Sunday last week, Members of Parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement converged in Kiboga district to celebrate the passing of the Constitutional amendment removing the Presidential age limit. President Yoweri Museveni applauded the MPs calling them heroes. “You the 317, you are the new historicals by contributing to the stability of the country.”
