Opposition Members Receiving Funding From External Sources - Matia Kasaijja

The Minister of Finance and Planning Matia Kasaija who is also the MP for Buyanja in Kibaale district concluded his consultations on the Presidential age limit in the Constituency on Wednesday. He addressed District NRM leaders and other locals who converged at Karuguza to discuss the proposed amendment Article 102 (b) of the Constitution to remove the lower 35 and the upper 75 age limit for one to seek election. The Minister claimed that some NRM members were sabotaging the interest of the party for personal reasons. “It’s not a secret, there are people who have intended wanting to arm-twist the President for their own selfish interests I will leave it at that. There are people I know them but I will not mention them.” Said the Minister of Finance.

The Minister who did not provide any evidence claimed that members of the Opposition opposed to the lifting of the Presidential age limit were receiving funding from external sources. “They are receiving funding from external sources.” Kibaale district Woman MP Norah Basemera said removing the Presidential age limit and age limit for District Chairpersons would create an opportunity for all Ugandans who met the best requirements to contest for high political offices. “President Museveni may be a beneficiary of this but he is not the only person who is being targeted by this law.” Said, Norah Basemera – Woman MP, Kibaale.

The Minister and the MP then asked the Kibaale NRM District Council to make a pronouncement on the proposed amendment of Article 102 (b) of the Constitution. “Those who support the removal of the Presidential age limit, raise your hands.”
