Kenyatta Leading With 98% In Kenya Presidential Election Re-Run

Returning Officers from Constituencies that participated in the repeat Presidential election spent the day submitting results to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission National Tally Center in Nairobi. By press time, results from over 28,000 out of the 35,564 polling stations had been submitted. The preliminary results gave the incumbent President and Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta a landslide victory of 98% of the votes tallied so far. “And so far, we have received a total of 37,045 forms, 34 As. The verification process will take quite some time once the hard copies are received from the Returning Officers, they will be verified with scanned electronic copies from the keen’s kit and announced.” Said, Wafula Chebukati – Chairperson IEBC.

Leaders from the Jubilee Party commended the voting exercise and they said they were happy with the number of votes cast in favor of President Kenyatta. “The President is in the lead, we didn’t expect anything different we are used to winning this game in the past few years, so we are just waiting for the declaration.” Raphael Tuju – Jubilee Head of Secretariat. However, the leader of the NASA Coalition applauded Kenyans who boycotted the elections which they described as a sham. “The boycott has shown that the so-called numbers and percentages that Jubilee and Uhuru Kenyatta that have been talking about were all along floodlight. Uhuru lost elections in August, he has again lost this sham one in which he was basically running against himself.” Said, Musalia Mudavadi – NASA Leader.

Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was forced again to postpone elections in the Nyanza Counties which did not vote yesterday due to security concerns. “The Commission has deliberated on the various incidents happening in some parts of the country and has postponed elections scheduled to take place tomorrow Saturday to a further date to be announced in the following areas.” Said the IEBC Chairperson. These include Siyaya, Miguri, Homabe, and Kisumu County.
