Three days after his election as a new Member of Parliament of Kyadondo East Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu properly known by his stage name Bobi Wine was moving to unite his Constituents who were paralyzed by the just concluded by-election. On Sunday morning, he made a courtesy call to the family of the former area MP the Late MP Sam Kalega Njuba who twice represented the Constituency in Parliament. The MP elect was received by Njuba’s widow Gertrude Njuba who is a senior official in the state house.
In the by-election, the duo were members of the ruling NRM party who defied their party and threw their weight behind the musician who turned politician instead of the NRM candidate Sitenda Sebalu who went on to miserably lose to Kyagulanyi with a range of about 21,000 votes. They said Bobi Wine’s manifesto was far better from those of his four rivals. “I saw that as an opportunity and so I want to ride on that opportunity and work with him to bring these youths together and bring the people of Kyadondo together. Then after that, after we have achieved a certain level of transformation then we can go back to our parties.” Said, Stella Njuba Late Sam Njuba’s Daughter.
The elderly Njuba who declared during the campaigns that she would not support the NRM candidate in defiance of President Yoweri Museveni and NRM believed that Robert Kyagulanyi was the leader Kyadondo East deserved.
Sitenda defeated Stella Njuba in the NRM primaries ahead of the last elections in 2016. she obtained over 4,000 votes. “Am an NRM person by blood, by birth I don’t know by what, by everything that you can, by every measure. But I found that the MP elect had charisma to bring the youth together.” Said, Stella Njuba. The MP elect also visited the grave of the late Sam Kalega Njuba to pay his respect. “This is supposed to be a lesson to us people of Kyadondo that people can come from different political affiliations but work together as one family.” Said, Robert Kyagulanyi, MP Elect Kyadondo East.
Njuba and his wife Gertrude played a key role in President Museveni’s armed struggle that brought the National Resistance Movement army to power in 1986. However, by the time he died in 2013, he had fallen out with the President and was a key leader of the opposition FDC party. Earlier Bobi Wine joined Christians of Miracle Christian Fellowship Ministries in Nangabo Sub-county to thank God for his victory. “I am happy to see you hear because it shows that God is the source of your strength.” Said Pastor Peter.
“God accepted to use us without any guns, without using any money but standing on the truth.” Said, Robert Kyagulanyi. Pastor Peter Selubwama prayed for Kyagulanyi and urged him to effectively represent the people. “I bless him in the name of the father, son and the holy spirit Amen.” Said Pastor Peter. Bobi Wine’s victory party was earlier scheduled for Sunday but was postponed because the MP elect’s first call was to ensure the release of his voters who were still in Police cells after they were arrested for allegedly causing violence during the campaigns.
