The Kyadondo by-election will be put down in history as the highly contested race that was won by a candidate with the least political experience. The race attracted five candidates, the most popular of whom was Robert Kyagulanyi or Bobi Wine, Forum for Democratic Change and its candidate Apollo Kantinti and the ruling NRM party and Sitenda Sebalu. The two other candidates were Muwada Nkunyinji and Dr. Sowedi Kayongo.
“I really congratulate H.E Bobi Wine for the landslide victory that he received in the election.” Said, Former FDC Leader. Dr. Kizza Besigye said Kyagulanyi’s victory was a sign that people had confidence in individuals who fought for their rights. “Many of our leaders are not clear about this fact; that we are in a liberation phase, not a partisan competition phase where party platforms, policy platforms are competing.” Said, Dr. Kizza Besigye. That built the loss of his party candidate Apollo Kantinti to the voters’ trust in the individual’s capacity as opposed to the party. “So even if they are the ones who had elected him, pleading with them that leave him now for let him finish the term and see how he performs; they were not interested.” Said, Dr. Kizza Besigye.
The four-time Presidential candidate described Bobi Wine’s victory as the common people’s voice. “Even as I took my candidate around, they were very clear with me they said we want “Twagala sawa” and I respect I respect them I respect that.” Said the Former FDC Presidential candidate. Besigye made the remarks at Nakawa Magistrate’s Court where he had attended the mission of his treason case, he vowed not to attend the Court again. “Therefore, I will not come back to this Court for the bail or the treason case.” Said, Dr. Kizza Besigye. It’s now one year and three months since Besigye was charged with treason. The Prosecution has been asking for more time to complete the investigations.
