Police Block DP Campaign In Dubbed "Kogikwatako"

As the public space gets filled pitting people for and against lifting the Presidential age cap, the Police weren't leaving anything to chance. The Police in Mbarara swung into action blocking DP party members from carrying out their pressure campaign dubbed Kogikwatako. The DP campaign was aimed at showing the dissatisfaction in NRM and some independent MPs who threw their weight towards the lifting of the age limit cap which some quarters interpreted to be a ploy to create space for President Museveni to rule beyond 2021. The Police besieged the DP party regional offices arresting the regional chairperson. “The second Division Commander of Makindye Mr. Kalala and senior officers started threatening me as well as bullying me for not excusing myself from the President of Uganda.” They sought permission from the Police earlier but they were shocked by the action. “So the Police has now become one of the cadres of the NRM because we saw NRM members in Kabale and in Northern Uganda while they were officiating the launch of amending the Article 102 (b) so that Museveni can rule for life as the Police were providing them with security.”

He also alleged that in trying to block them, some of the DP party members were bartered by the Police. The Police, however, refuted the arrest allegation saying they were only questioned on the circumstances. “We have not arrested Hajji Makumbi, what we are doing here is to prevent them from committing a crime and we are working on the guidelines of the Public Order Management Act 2013.” DP members had called upon all the people in the country to come and protect the Constitution. “As people of Rwampala, as a stakeholder of Rwampala we are likely to organize our people, we camp in the compound of our Member of Parliament, he will explain to us why he has chosen that direction against the willingness of Rwampala people because for us we are not going to keep talking, this is the time for action.”
