FDC Makes Final Push Ahead Of Iganga Woman MP By-Election

Dr. Kizza Besigye’s stay in Iganga started with an abrupt visit to Iganga District Referral Hospital. There was some panic as some medical workers were seen trying to clean the hospital presumably to avoid embarrassment and negative media attention. Besigye also visited the 5 FDC supporters who were allegedly beaten by NRM supporters on Sunday night. He expressed his disappointment over the dilapidated state of the facility. “Iganga hospital like all the other hospitals in Uganda is in a very bad shape as we could see the infrastructure is dilapidated, the conditions in which the patients stay in the wards, the mattresses, the beds...”

The Opposition politicians later took to the streets and villages to converse for votes. Besigye’s call for change was as passionate as usual. “There are those who give births in the UK and those that give births in the bush, that’s the Uganda which is into two. No one should lie to you with the yellow color, Uganda is into two. Therefore those in the oppressed Uganda are fighting a battle to save our country so that it benefits everybody.” He condemned the corruption within the system. “Uganda has never been corrupt than the current regime.”

The Iganga Woman MP position fell vacant following the death of Hairat Kaudha in July 2017. Five ladies came up to vie for the seat but the competition is mostly between FDC’s Mariam Nantale and NRM’s Brenda Asinde Suubi. The by-election will be held on 14th September 2017.
