NASA Declares Raila Odinga ‘Winner’

For over eight hours, journalists sat waiting for the promised press conference by the Raila Odinga camp. When it finally came, the announcement was the least anyone would have expected. “We have now received further information from confidential IEBC sources furnishing us with the actual presidential election results contained in their database. The data which confirms the authentic and legitimate results of the Presidential election shows that the two leading candidates obtained the following votes; Raila Amolo Odinga 8,041,726 votes, Uhuru Kenyatta 7,755,428 votes.” Said, Musalia Mudavadi – NASA Party. In what appeared as a strategic move, Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka chose to remain silent leaving the duty of declaring themselves winners to the head of the campaign bureau Musalia Mudavadi. “Based on the foregoing, we demand that the IEBC Chairperson announces the presidential election results forthwith and declare the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga and H.E Steven Kalonzo Musyoka as the duly elected President and Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya respectively.” Said, Musalia Mudavadi.

The announcement came before the official voting tallying ended in an election that pitted Raila against the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta who at the moment enjoyed a comfortable lead and he was destined for a second and last term as president. The country’s capital remained largely deserted with most of the businesses closed as many people choose to stay home to monitor the situation. Amidst the tension, religious leaders were calling upon for calm.
