Millions Of Kenyans Vote In General Election

At various polling stations across Kenya, officials of the Independent and electoral Boundaries Commission embarked on the vote counting exercise. However, at various polling stations voting was extended beyond 5 pm the official closing time as many voters were still in the lines. In some places polling materials were delivered late. “Though they started late, we didn’t start at 6 exactly but we hope we will make and vote.” “Am so disappointed, me I was here at around 4 in the night, now am still in the queue, its half past 7. We can say today it was not like last time. We are a bit disappointed.” “I came along to vote and I will still wait even if it will go up to in the evening.”

“We wish to assure you that all for the polling stations that opened late, we will compensate the time by extending the voting period by the same amount of hours that were lost before opening.” These delays did not hinder the eight Presidential candidates to cast their ballots. The incumbent and Jubilee candidate Uhuru Kenyatta voted at Gatundu polling station in Kiambu County at 11am. “If you got and if you’re positive, we’ve run a very positive campaign telling Kenyans what we have done, what we intend to do and I believe that Kenyans have the ability to choose and reflect as to the direction you want us to and I believe you want to continue moving forward, they want us to continue living in peace and harmony and unity, they want us to have progress and I believe they will give Jubilee an opportunity to continue with the agenda that we have already started for this Country.” Said, Candidate Uhuru Kenyatta.

His main challenger National Super Alliance NASA candidate Raila Odinga cast his vote at Qibla Primary School in Nairobi County. At the Bomas of Kenya which is also the National Tally Center, the IBC officials are waiting for the final results before making the final announcements. Kenya’s Constitution gave the Independent Boundaries Commission seven days to announce the winner of today’s election but the Commission had assured that within 24 hours, Kenya would have a new President.
