Opposition MPs Hold Rally In Kawempe Urging Residents To Resist Constitutional Amendments

Kawempe North MP Latifu Ssebagala who hosted the rally arrived at the Kawempe Muslim Primary School grounds alongside Kiira Municipality MP Ibrahim Semujju Nganda by 3 pm. Organizers distributed leaflets which rejected the Constitutional Amendment Bill which sought to amend the management of the land resource.

“These matters have no political inclination, they will affect you and your village which will also be taken away.” “This is the time for us to raise and put to action what our forefathers fought for.”


Only yesterday, the Uganda Law Society revealed that it was unnecessary to table Constitutional Amendments because the current land laws were adequate. “I appeal to the government to completely withdraw this Bill, it is unnecessary and because there are many options in which the government can deal with the issues that it proposes to do.” Said, Francis Gimara – President Uganda Law Society. The Campaign against the Constitutional Amendments begun in Masaka, Kyebando, and Wakiso. This would be the ninth one with the politicians sending a consistent message urging residents to resist the temptation. The other contentious issue was that of the age limit which was restricted at the age of 75. During an interview with NTV’s On the Spot host Patrick Kamara, President Museveni revealed he was uncomfortable seeking another term beyond the age limit. “So are you saying you wouldn’t go beyond 75 yourself sir?” “Not all.” Replied President Yoweri Museveni.

“The people of Kasese said if Museveni was stubborn then they would bring the royal guards to manage him.” These MPs planned to take their campaign to Kagoma and Matugga in Wakiso district.
