Rwanda Elections: Paul Kagame Throws Victory Party, Thanks Rwandans For Trusting Him

As early as 7 pm, the parking lot of Rwanda Patriotic Front Headquarters in Rusororo Gasabo district was filled with graded teams in activity as jubilant Rwandans eagerly waited and expected victory. Songs which were used for morale boosting during campaigns were played leading many people to break out in turs. These moments were only to be interrupted as the National Electoral Commission of Rwanda aired provisional results on National Television. President Paul Kagame’s three sons were part of the party but his daughter Angie Kagame gigged with the rest of the crew. President Paul Kagame later joined in towards Midnight.

President Paul Kagame said that immediately after the Rwandans went through a referendum and asked him to stand for another term, he got a lot backlash from the International Community. But after the polls of yesterday, he believes they have been proved wrong. “When you declare that I should continue to lead you, many people, especially abroad said many things. Now you have shown that what you meant was what you have decided in the election. It also shows that we are not forcing our way to power.” Said Paul Kagame.

The President-elect used the opportunity to thank the youth who successfully organized his campaign venues. “Children and the elderly were helped. Those who fell sick were given medicine. Others who were thirsty were given water.” Said Paul Kagame. After his brief speech, partying started afresh until the early hours of the morning.
