Tension, horror, and fright gripped residents of Bulenga when Muhammad Kirumira a well-known critic of the Uganda Police Force was shot multiple times at around 8 pm on Saturday night.
According to eyewitnesses, Kirumira was driving a Toyota Corona UAJ 228V in the company of a female colleague when they were shot at by men traveling on a motorcycle. "They first hit the windows then they shot at them." "The Police officer died instantly.
The assailants' motorcycle did not have lights and after the shooting, it sped off towards Bulenga. They should account for the motorcycles that are used to kill but this one was red in color and big." "The shooter was dressed as though he was from a social function and it could be Kirumira was being trailed all along." "We took Kirumira to Mulago in a Noah Vehicle of Town ace type.
The woman was still alive, however, the traffic officers failed to pave way for us."What we know is that shots were fired right behind me here and the vehicle is still there. We have Police Officers who are surrounding that vehicle. The blue lights that you are seeing are of the Police Patrol vehicles that are parked here and trying to investigate the situation.
Later, Scene of Crime investigators cordoned off the area before they started gathering evidence. Three hours after the shooting, President Museveni visited the crime scene and engaged the gathered residents. He left the area a few minutes later with two eyewitnesses.
Kirumira’s death was the latest in the series of assassinations of high profile individuals over the last few years. Many of these murders are yet to be solved and the murderers broke to book.
