The climb to the Rwenzori Mountains is one such experience very tedious to others. Some of the tourists opted out of the 120 kilometers' climb the government seeks to prove in with cable cars. "To climb Mount Rwenzori it takes 7 days but in our time, most people don't have that time to climb and others, it requires you to be physically fit." Said, Ephram Kamuntu – Minister of Tourism.
The initiative is already successful in countries like Iceland whose figures have increased since the introduction. “Put a cable car on Mount Rwenzori, you just go in minutes you reach the top. I tell you when you reach the top, it’s like paradise on earth; looking down you can see Congo, you can see Rwanda, then you can see the plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake George, and Lake Edward.” The Ministry feels the current state is outdated to meet growing interests. “We are looking for an investor, we have already carried out a feasibility study and this is one of the priorities we want to do. Because potentially it can generate a lot of money.” The ambitious venture, however, comes at a huge cost the government is unwilling to shoulder.
