Rachael Ndagire Nankabirwa went missing in her home in Gaba just south of Kampala. Ndagire’s relatives believed she was arrested by security agencies but they tried unsuccessfully to trace her whereabouts. “When she came back on Wednesday, she received a call from one of her friend asking to deliver cosmetics. Shortly after that, we got a call from her friend informing us that Ndagire had been arrested.” Said, Zuhurah Nansubuga – Racheal Ndagire’s mother. “We were told check at Old Kampala police station, we didn’t find her. But the DISO insists he was aware of her arrest.” Said, Annet Namata – Ndagire’s Relative.
However army spokesperson Brig. Karemire denied any knowledge of Ndagire’s arrest or detention. He further advised her family to seek help from police to establish Ndagire’s whereabouts. “There is nowhere we have Racheal Nankabirwa in UPDF custody. So I advise the family to contact the police so that it can be assisted in the search.” Said, Brig. Richard Karemire – UPDF Spokesperson. Police also denied any knowledge of Ndagire. “We are trying to look into the matter and we shall avail with information when we get it. Of course, there are allegations according to the family members that she was taken by people who are believed to be people from the police or the military and we shall ascertain those allegations after inquiries. And we shall be giving him details about them.” Said, Luke Owoyesigire – Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan Police. Despite the denials from police and the army, Ndagire’s family was still convinced that her disappearance was still connected to security investigations and they were still hoping that somebody would give them information on her whereabouts.
