The Uganda People's Defense Forces gathered military hardware which included grenades, bullets and small arms weighing a total of 89 tons from various places across the country for disposal at Kabamba barracks in Mubende district. The Inspector General of Military Hardware Brig. Solomon Amanya said the unserviceable ammunition could cause harm. “We’ve collected these UXOs and unserviceable ammunition from some parts of Northern Uganda, Masindi, Magamaga and some parts of Entebbe to make sure that we put together all this un serviced ammunition and then we conduct this exercise.” Said, Brig. Solomon Amanya – Inspector General of Military Equipment, UPDF.

Commissioner of Police Okello Makmot said the destruction was geared towards protecting the citizens and achieving the UNDP goal for peace and justice. "The objective of this operation was majorly to ensure that the obsolete and very dangerous ammunitions lifecycle comes to an end in a professional manner. Because if they explode on their own they can cause injury to lives and property." Said, Makmot Okello – Commissioner of Police.

A US army overseer at the event Maj. David Peel said Uganda took a bold step to destroy the dangerous ordinances. “To us, it’s quite a role of a partner in helping to reduce and eliminate dangerous small arms for Uganda. But I think the most significance really involves eliminating small arms use throughout all of Eastern Africa. I think what Rex is doing is extremely effective and the corporation amongst 15 different nations is at the book.” Said, Maj. David Peel – In charge of security, US Special Forces in Uganda. The army has asked the public to be vigilant and to report to authorities if they come across any unexploded ordinances or small arms which are in the wrong hands.
