Three of the five suspects in the Kaweesi murder case was re-arrested after being granted bail and have been released yet again in a case in which they have been facing new charges of prefacing to belong to the ADF which is a rebel group. Appearing before Grade one Magistrate Noah Ssajabbi, the three including Umar Maganda Ramadhan, Abdul Kala, and Ahmad Ssenfuka were released on a 2 million cash bail each. “And therefore satisfied that A3, A4, and A5 have produced substantial sureties.”
Citing the gravity of the other offense and the Court’s effort to ensure that the suspects return to Court, stringent terms were set for the suspects. They will now be required to report to their Residential Police Commanders every second Friday of the month in addition to attending their normal Court sessions. “Court has granted them bail with a condition that they deposit 2 million shillings each in cash before they are released. And after that, they will report every second Friday of the month before the DPCs of their residences.” Said, Wameli Anthony – Applicants’ Lawyer.
However, two of the suspects including Ali Mugoya Ntuyo and Kusuka Faizal had an unlucky day in Court after their bail denied. “Unfortunately A1 Ali Mugoya and A2 Hibwagi, they didn’t have sureties. A1 had sureties but no LC letters, A2 did not have any so the Court rejected their application.” The State represented by Rachael Nabwire said it was still investigating the matter. It was alleged that between 2016 and April 2017, the group and others still at large in various places in Uganda and in the Democratic Republic of Congo accepted to be part of a rebel group the Allied Defense Forces. The five will be returning to Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on 23rd January 2018 and their lawyer said the two who were denied bail will have the opportunity to re-apply then.
