Police said that Geoffrey Massa’s car was suspiciously parked along the Northern Bypass in Bweyogerere in the wee hours of Thursday. However, when they approached, the former Uganda Cranes striker reportedly drove off allegedly knocked over a Police motorcycle and the Police shot at the vehicle. This act earned him criminal charges. “We have preferred two charges against him; attempted murder for the officers that he attempted to hit with his vehicle and kill probably, who jumped off the motor bike and their motor bike got terribly damaged, the second one is the Traffic and Road Safety offense of reckless driving.” Said Emilian Kayima, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson. This comes on the heels of reports that Massawas planning to leave the countryfor other engagements. “What I would advise him if he surely has intentions of traveling abroad, the most important thing is to talk to the Police officers, they extend his bond up to the time he probably comes back and that's it,” I asked Kayima what would happen if Massa attempted to leave the country without informing the Police? “Let’s cross the bridge when we reach it.”
The Police said they would not charge Josephine Mariza who was with Massa at the time of the incident. Josephine Mariza, a friend to Massa Police claimed she was shot in the buttock and got injured by a bullet. But what remained unclear was how could she have been shot in that very part when the same Police claimed the time the shooting happened Massa was trying to speed off to avoid being arrested. I also wanted to know why Police banned journalists from taking pictures of Massa’s Prado vehicle which was impounded and parked at Bweyogerere Police Station. “In today’s papers, they have seen the photographs of the vehicle because there was nothing to hide. So we’re doing it as best as we can.” Massa was also injured on the head when the vehicle eventually crashed into a pole.
