For several years now, Uganda has been exporting labor to various places in the Middle East. There are also reports of rampant mistreatment. members of Parliament's Defense and Internal Affairs Committee said th ey had discovered on a recent visit to the Middle East that 16 Ugandans had committed suicide. “…suicide and died. We met three who had nowhere to reside, actually the fourth one had run mad. Now, when you talk about the number of people living in Abu Dhabi and Oman; it is a sad story.” Said, Muwanga Kivumbi – Butambala County MP. They also found out that humans were being sold out into slavery. “We visited a state and visited a slave market and we found Ugandans being sold like slaves. One of the girls on the stand being sold was from Ishaka.”

The matter of foreigners having diplomatic and official passports also came up. "They were arrested in a foreign country with Ugandan passports. How did they get them?"
