Court Sets May For Apaa Land Case Hearing

Gulu Court Deputy Registrar Opesen Thadius set 22nd May 2018 as a date for the hearing of the case between communities occupying Apaa and Uganda Wildlife Authority. In his letter, the Registrar has directed the Attorney General, UWA, and Adjumani Local Government to appear for the hearing of the case. This announcement was the best news for the locals of Apaa who only had up to today to leave the land. “For us, we are going to be patient all we got to know is what they are doing." "The delaying of the Court means that the governments are not respecting the Court Order because there are so many things that have happened to the people of Apaa.” “We know as God is on our side, the God will also not allow their people to be removed from that place because we are very well assured that this place of Apaa is the place of the Acholi people.”

Speaking after Court, Applicant Lawyer who represented Okello Oryem and Co. Advocates Omoloyi Ivan asked locals to remain patient and wait for the date of the hearing. “The Judge had issued a notice and we have to oblige to the Judge’s request that is to writing his decisions and to that effect his time of writing his decisions ends today so tomorrow he will be back in business but he has given us an adjournment to particular dates and we believe that when we return the next time we will be able to proceed.” The petition filed by Amuru leaders is the only hope left for the people of Apaa who may face eviction in code rules in favor of UWA and Adjumani Local Government.
