LAND PROBE: Fort Portal's Vincent Mugisha Grilled By The Land Commission

Several people have launched complaints to the Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters accusing one Vincent Mugisha who grabbed over 400 acres of land in Matali Parish in Kihura Sub County in Kyenjonjo district. Mugisha appeared before the Commission of Inquiry to explain himself in all the allegation levied against him. “You invaded her land claiming to be the owner, you cut down her tree plantation.” “My Lord I have the fears about me, all these fears My Lord is false.” Said, Vincent Mugisha – Accused of Land Grabbing. The Commission asked Mugisha td also intimidate the Commission but you have not managed. We are not going to be intimidated and don’t try to intimidate us with your words because we know a Magistrate Grade one who explain where he gets the power to grab land with impunity and even threaten the Judiciary and the Police. “Because you do not only intimidate the Courts but you thought you shoulile we are sitting here has been intimidated.” Said, Justice Catherine Bamugemereire – Commission Chairperson.

At some point, Mugisha appeared to have disrespected the Commission which prompted Justice Catherine Bamugemereire to warn him against undermining their work. “Letters of administration have been canceled and that’s why she doesn’t even occupy the land because he does not afford.” “But for you to even sit there and have the audacity to say let her try to go to the land, she can’t even occupy it but that’s what you have done to all these people. Let us be very clear here with who is talking, I haven’t asked you to answer me?”

Mugisha admitted that his agents had grabbed guns from the Police Officers. “My Lord, it is true that my workers got possession of those guns two of them when Policemen came to attack them on orders of Nnalongo, they were together with Nnalongo but unfortunately they were drunk.” The Commission was also skeptical of the authenticity of some of the documents that Mugisha produced citing some irregularities. Justice Bamugemereire later had Mugisha arrested saying he had continued disrespecting the Commission. “You will go with our investigators and explain why you threatened two witnesses who have appeared before this Commission and actually threatening them even inside this Commission.” Mugisha is accused of grabbing land from different people and institutions including the Tooro Kingdom and the National Forestry Authority among others.
