Godfrey Wamala a businessman had spent three days at Entebbe Police cells following his arrest for the murder of celebrated music star Mowzey Radio. Today, Wamala was brought to the Entebbe Magistrate’s Court under tight security. By the time he arrived, security had been beefed up even when none either of his family members nor that of the deceased was present. According to the Charge Sheet State represented by Julius Tuhairwe alleged that Wamala who is a resident of Kyengera, Nsangi Town Council Wakiso district on 22nd February 2018 at DeBar in division Award in Entebbe Municipality unlawfully hit down Ssekibogo Moses also known as Radio Mowzey to death. “...you unlawfully caused the death of Ssekibogo Moses thus Mowzey Radio.”
Tuhairwe also informed the Court that investigations into the matter were still ongoing. Wamala a.k.a Troy also did not take a plea on grounds that Court did not have the jurisdiction to grant the same. “Your matter is in the High Court, so you have a right to apply for bail from the High Court.” Ladislaus Rwakafuzi Wamala’s defense lawyer, however, expressed dissatisfaction to the fact that his client was remanded without taking a plea. “It is unfair and unjust for people to be remanded when they have not taken a plea. For example, if a person wanted to plead guilty for example; the same Court cannot accept a plea of guilty. Why shouldn’t a person be brought before a Magistrate who has no jurisdiction? This is my contention and I think it’s unfair and it is wrong.” Said, Ladislaus Rwakafuzi – Wamala’s Lawyer.
His colleagues including the Bar Manager Egesa George and counterpart Lukebye Zavia who were also arrested on the night of February 22nd, 2018 were not charged as information had it that they will be produced as witnesses. “We are happy that the person who was behind this incident was arrested and we want to ensure that justice is done and that he is taken to Court and is charged accordingly and appropriately. And that we produce all the witnesses to ensure that he is convicted.” “There were many rowdy people at the bar and the bar was also loud and it happened and it is hard to pin on anybody because the situation was very loud.”
Wamala was remanded to Kigo Prison until February 26th, 2018 when he will return information. “You will be remanded until 26th February formation.”
