The Police searched the scene of the shooting at Busega Pub where Sam Mutungi a Police Constable attached to Bukuya Sub-County in Mubende district shot two revelers dead and injured three others. Mutungi allegedly developed a misunderstanding with other people at the local bar after he showed interest in a woman already attached to someone else at the bar. “Residents asked the Police officer to stay away from the woman. He became agitated and residents began beating him up.”
According to eyewitnesses, Mutungi sneaked out of the bar to his home and returned shortly holding a gun and dressed in a Police uniform, he then opened fire at people in the bar. "He shot bullets from a distance but people in the bar never heard it because of the loud music." "He was actually on duty at the Police Station but the circumstances under which he was driven to come and be at the Pub were not yet clear." Said, Christopher Baruhange – RPC, Wamala Region.
The Police identified the dead as Kawaga Negatalia a resident of Bukuya and a UPDF Soldier Yafesi Balode deployed at Lukwangu Camp in Kitungu Sub-County. One of the injured Emmanuel Kusima a boda-boda rider and a resident of Kamusenene was admitted at Mityana Regional Referral Hospital. Two others who sustained injuries were discharged from Kasanga Health Center IV. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the same Health Center for a post-mortem.
Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed that Mutungi who fled immediately after the shooting had been arrested. He was found hiding in Bukuya Sub-County.
