The alleged raid is said to have occurred at dawn. According to Isaac Kibito a security at CCEDU who works during the day shift, Ronald Kiwambu the security guard who was on duty during the alleged theft immediately rang him on phone after the incident. “He called me immediately and said Isaac you run to the office I got a problem yesterday at 2:25 am. What happened is that thieves jumped in and then they asked him to give them a gun.” Said, Isaac Ipeto – CCEDU, Security Guard. Kiwambu also rang CCEDU staff. “He told me that they were attacked at night by a number of people holding pistols and they put him on a gunpoint.” Said, Steven Ssebaana – CCEDU.
The security guard reported that his gun was taken forcefully by suspected thugs. “So when he insisted, he said that you don’t take the gun I have some money here am having maybe you can take that one. So now when he insisted like pleading with them they said no we don’t want anything from you, we only want you to give us your gun.” However, his supervisor gave contradictory statements claiming the gun which is reportedly missing was picked by them in faulty condition. “The gun is safe, the firearm is safe is in the Amra for a service.” “It leaves a gap, it leaves questions unanswered so where is the guard?”
Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima told NTV that a probe was underway to establish the truth. “We are going to investigate this to its logical conclusion because it is possible that a crime was fomenting but was disrupted midway, we don’t know. So who is telling the truth, who is telling the lie?” After checking the CCEDU premises, it found out that nothing was robbed from the premises.
Police are investigating allegations that gunmen raided the offices of Citizens' Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) a civil society organization based in Nsambya at dawn and stole a gun from the security guard on duty. However, police say that there are contradictory reports about the missing gun.
