A prison suspect was shot as he attempted to escape while they were being taken for a short call at Abaita Ababiri Police Station. The 25-year-old suspect identified as Male Edirisa was arrested on Thursday and charged with an offense of theft.
He was shot by a Police officer in the legs after he engaged them in a running spree into a thick bush. “Escaping from the Police is a crime but the problem was that he was also resisting re-arrest.” He was later rushed to Entebbe General Hospital for treatment. Eyewitnesses narrated to NTV how the suspect was shot. “We find it disturbing that even when they had caught the suspect, the Police kept beating him.” “They say we take the law into our hands, then why did the Police beat the suspect.”
Some locals also told NTV that Police did not stop at shooting him with bullets but after, they also used heavy stones to hit him. “There is the stone they used to hit him when he fell down.”
