Family Of Kaweesi Murder Suspect Ahmed Senfuka Speaks Out On His Re-Arrest

On Tuesday 7th of November barely after the Court granted bail to the seven suspects in the murder of former Assistant Inspector of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, families were eager to meet their loved ones. Ahmed Senfuka accompanied by his brother Abdul Shaban Senfuka breathed a sigh of relief when they rode a motorcycle but little did they know that they were being trailed. Shortly after, he was apprehended. The Police claimed it was not aware of the men who carried out the arrests but the Army later admitted to having conducted the operation. The Judiciary led by the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe condemned the action. “So I cannot tell you where they are holding them because we didn’t participate in this arrest.” Said, Emilian Kayima – Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson. “Even if you have to arrest a person, you don’t have to strip him naked. These security forces, they should have handcuffs, you have gotten the person you want to arrest him, put him in handcuffs, he’s mobilized, to take him where you want to take him.” Said, Bart Katureebe – Chief Justice.

We visited Senfuka’s family in Namanugga Mukono district. For the past eight months his relatives had often walked to Kampala whenever the suspects were brought to Court. 23rd March 2017, invoked bitter memories for Senfuka’s father Shaban Kasule. It was the day his son was arrested in his sight. “They used his friend to call him from his garden and they arrested him.” Said, Shaban Kasule – Ahmed Senfuka’s father. Jamira Nakimuli Senfuka’s wife and his mother Aisha Nakku narrated to us how the mood was at home upon the news of Senfuka’s bail. “I received a call confirming that my husband had been released.” “We were extremely happy.” Abdul Shaban Senfuka who is his brother witnessed the re-arrest. “I cried because I could not believe that I was with my brother again. But moments after we jumped off the boda-boda, I suddenly heard him scream.” The Shrill of Senfuka trying to free himself from the clutches continued to haunt his brother. “I hear the voice as he cried out every moment.” But hopes turned to despair for many of his relatives. “He used to pay my rent but now I was evicted from the house.” Said, Jamira Nakimuli – Wife to Ahmed Senfuka. “I am a sick woman and it is my son who used to grow my food.” “I now take care of his 13 children. I feed more than one family.”

Questions were bound over the roles of those who helped in the arrest. “I suspected that the traffic officers could have been part of the plot because they were blocking us from rescuing him.” Personally, I have tried to engage the Police Spokesperson on this from all the platforms but in vain. Senfuka’s Lawyer Godfrey Turyamusiima filed for habeas-Corpus as his client’s whereabouts remained unknown.
