five victims were admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, all residents of Kasabuti and Masaba villages in Bukulula Sub-county Kalungu district. They bore machete and club wounds inflicted by the assailants. They included George Kitengo, Sarah Nambogo, Richard Mangagaka, Jane Katushabe a 17-year-old who according to the Police was also gang-raped. The victims appeared to have lost a lot of blood according to medics. This was no ordinary house break-in since the assailants left all the property untampered with. Residents in the two villages were terrified and anxious about what might happen next.
The Police were however quick to dismiss claims of the presence of rebels in the greater Masaka Sub-region. Last month, a similar attack at Rwabenge village left Nansubuga Lillian dead, she was the wife to Kalungu district Chairperson Richard Kyabaggu. The Police was yet to release a final report to these attacks.
