NSSF Friends With Benefits Winner’s Life Was Changed By Campaign

Lydia Baryama was the top winner of the 30 million shillings for the first edition of the NSSF’s Friends with Benefits campaign. “I saw the advert in the Newspapers and my siblings and friends saw it and they knew I had been addressing to my benefits from NSSF. So they encouraged me to write my story.” Said, Lydia Baryama – NSSF Friends With Benefits Winner. She got her money not through retirement but through validity because she was diagnosed with brain trauma and required an operation. “If I didn’t have them maybe I wouldn’t be here. I would not be in a position to pay for my operation, it was an expensive operation.”

The money she had saved with NSSF partially came into play. Some of the money went into her hardware shop which extended and thus helped her win the 30 million top Prize. For NSSF, the Friends with Benefits Campaign had financial literacy painted all over it. “When we give people this money, when we did a deep six survey, we realized that 96% of the people who get this money blow it up within two years. So then we ask ourselves what we can do about this. Of course, the critical thing is financial literacy. So, Friends with Benefits gives us a platform where we can share people’s examples of how they have used their money and in a very entertaining manner that anyone can easily pick something out of it.” Said, Barbara Alimi – Marketing Manager NSSF.
