Hundreds of packed water produced across the country will come into the straight ambit of regulation a new policy launched by the Minister of Trade and Industry dictates. “So we need to regulate this sector because it was going wild. Everybody is establishing packaged water, it could be anywhere, they do it anywhere and it was very difficult to regulate. So this is also a regulator, I thank the Cabinet for the support and the government but I also thank the Ministry of Trade for having thought about this.” Said Amelia Kyambadde – Minister for Trade & Industry.
According to the Uganda National Bureau of Standards, the growing demand and consumption of such home produced product imply stiffer safeguards on qualities that must be in place. “Everybody is coming to package water, so the policy will at least give us direction. And we again as UNBS is to put on the issue of greater standards. So as part of the implementation, we are there and the good news with water is that we have the required capacities in trying to ensure that, that policy is implemented.” Said Dr. Ben Manyindo – Executive Director, UNBS.
