The question on almost Ugandan’s lips today is, who is killing the women of Entebbe? By the closure of business on 19th September 2017, 23 women had been killed. What baffled was the fact that no one seemed to have answers to this question. The police at first dismissed this as a case of professional hazards on the ladies of the night. However, as the numbers rose and the public demanded answers, the Inspector General of Police decided to pitch camp at Entebbe in an attempt to calm the locals and also intensify efforts to capture the murderer. he put in place a temporary curfew but still the murders continued. The police then held a press conference and announced that a cult “illuminati” was to blame for the murders. we were informed that letters signed by a one Katongole were in circulation urging people to join illuminati and one of the requirements involved human sacrifice. True to their word, the police arrested and charged the so called Katongole and his cohorts and paraded them before the press and remanded to prison. We all sighed a breath of relief and expected calm to return since the culprits were behind bars. Unfortunately, the race was short lived and even with Katongole locked up, the bodies kept piling up.
The reign of terror on the women of Entebbe still continued, women were living in fear, holed up in their houses, night businesses like bars and restaurants were feeling the pinch, prostitutes were not spared since they worked mostly at night. they were barely able to sustain themselves and their families.
Since the state had so far failed to give answers all we could do for now was speculate and come up with conspiracy theories. was it a mafia, a serial killer on the loose, if so, what was his vendetta against women? was this the beginning of a political crisis, or was it purely social?
At what point does the Uganda police accept that they had failed to solve the murder cases and solicit for help? Personally, I thought they should have done this when the body count rose to five, we now had 23 women dead and no answers.
Other murderers were also taking advantage of the Entebbe scenario and dumping dead bodies from different areas in Entebbe. Case in point was the husband who murdered his wife in Nansana and rode overnight to dump her body in Entebbe, he was hoping that she would be another statistic on the Entebbe murders, unfortunately for him he was arrested and confessed to his abominable deed!
Uganda police should accept that they failed to protect the women of Entebbe, they failed to find the murderer and solicit for help from other sources within and without the country. One murdered woman was bad enough but to have 23 women murdered and still no clues as to who the murderer was
