EU To Train Police Officers And Youth To Curb Crime

Following reports of rampant crimes among slum dwellers, the Police Force in conjunction with the European Union entered into a partnership. The two joined forces to train on how to handle crime including terrorism. “So we are going to train Police Officers who will go and work with different categories of people especially the youth living in the slum areas.” Said, Chombe Geoffrey – Deputy Director, Counter Terrorism.

According to the Chief of Mission in Uganda Ali Abdi, the partnership with the Police was aimed at bringing the Police near to people so as to incorporate and promote stability in slum areas. “Building the capacity of EU Authorities as well so that they can understand a little bit better the issues of the youth to try and see how we can bring these two communities together.” Said, Ali Abdi – Chief of Mission Uganda, IOM.

The State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania called for respect between the Police and the citizens so as to stop the violence that usually takes place during Police arrests. “Mistakes are human, they are part of the human process. If you want a person to perform better, acknowledge the person’s good part and then criticize.” Said, Obiga Kania - State Minister, Internal Affairs.
