The academic staff of the Law School at Makerere University came out to strongly condemn the events that played out in the Parliament where MPs that were suspended were forcefully evicted by a force that wasn’t permitted to operate within the precincts of the Parliament. “The manner in which this was done contravenes the Constitution but it also goes against the doctrines of separation of powers. The Parliament is supposed to be independent not only in terms of its mandate but also the vicinity of the Parliament is supposed to be protected to uphold that independence.” The age limit debate stirred up a sentiment the University Dons felt would affect a peaceful transfer of power something the country had never seen before. They were concerned with border issue of the proposed Constitutional amendment. “We are of the view that 2021 would have been a very good opportunity for the President to set a good example by showing the whole world that despite the fact that the country has had a history of conflict, a history of violent acts to take over political power, that is actually possible in Uganda for one President to peacefully hand over power to another.”

The legal experts strongly condemned the actions of the Speaker who they say acted unconstitutionally by surrendering her powers and exposing the Parliament to the rimes of the Executive Arm of the government particularly to the sections of the army and the Police. She was also criticized for backtracking and contradicting herself. “But what she did is contrary to that, it’s clear she backtracked and as a result of that, she has a turned the Parliament into a playing field something she said she wouldn't allow to happen when Hon. Ssekitoleko attempted to present a Bill to amend the Constitution. We, therefore, condemn the failure of the Speaker to follow her precedent but also the failure to follow the proper procedure laid out in the Parliamentary rules of procedure.”

The Dons described the events at the Parliament as members of Special Force Command and the Police to forcefully invade the Parliament to evict the suspended MPs as a repeat of the 1966 overthrow of the 1962 Constitution and the replacement with the Pigeon Hall Constitution that so the then Premier
