MPs Demand Kadaga Apology

Last Wednesday Opposition legislators fought with operatives from the Special Forces Command after refusing to vacate a session on orders of the Speaker of the Parliament Rebecca Kadaga. This Speaker had suspended 25 legislators accused in engaging in the chaos that disrupted Tuesday’s sitting. “The law is clarified, get out of the house. Nothing is going to proceed, get out of the house.” Now the Parliamentary Forum on Constitutional Supremacy assessed that the dramatic scenes relayed across the world were sparked off by Kadaga’s alleged conspiring with the government to allow the elite force into the chamber. “Continue to be mated by the Police, Military and State hooligans, Kiboko Squad on innocent Ugandans throughout the country who were peacefully demonstrating in opposing the lifting of the Presidential age limit and the Land Amendment. We, therefore, ask that one; the Speaker of the Parliament takes responsibility and apologizes to the Ugandans.” Said, Reagan Okumu – MP Aswa County (FDC).

“Threats, the intimidation, the fear that is coming to members of the Parliament and I am saying we are not here as a party to say this is independent, this is NRM or this is Opposition, no.” Said, Akello Sylvia – Woman MP, Otuke (NRM). The Forum also accused the Leader of Business in the Parliament Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda of orchestrating the attack on Opposition legislators. “...started the preparation to attack the Parliament early morning on the 27th September 2017. And they were headed by the Right Honorable Prime Minister, the IGP and other high profile Security Chiefs.” “We are equally worried as to whether the President’s office will guarantee the security of the Parliament being now a mediate neighbor. It might be very important for the Parliament to review its security in a line with being a neighbor to the President’s office.” Said, Odur Jonathan – MP, Erute South (UPC).

The Forum urged Kadaga to constitute a Reconciliation Committee to heal the wounds that threaten the future Parliamentary business.
