Residents of Osiya village Osukulu Sub-county in Tororo district were mourning the death of four people who perished in a motor accident along Nagongera – Buslowe road. The accident that occurred at about 7:30 am left others seriously injured. The dead were identified as Oboth Denis 62 and others only identified as Owori, Ofwono, and Teopista all residents of Osiya village Osukulu Sub-county in Tororo.
The bodies of the dead were taken to Tororo Hospital Mortuary while the 21 others who were seriously injured, 2 were taken to Tororo government hospital. Three of the dead were members of the same family. The relatives of the victims said the group was returning from a function of the last funeral rites at Bukusi village in Kilewa Sub-county in Tororo where they spent a night previously.
The Regional Police Commander Bukedi Region Ogwal Kasule attributed the accident to careless driving saying the driver was drunk. He said that they even recovered a number of beer bottles as they were rescuing the victims. “I suspect that all these passengers and the driver could have been drunk because we have got remnants of alcohol at the scene and bottles of spirits and sachets,” Ogwal warned drivers against drinking too much even after knowing that they had journeys to make.
