The biggest percentage of Ugandans started their own businesses that contribute taxes in excess of trillions to support the functioning of the government. But, though the majority of companies paid taxes, some were invading. Some taxpayers, however, questioned the services in return with many blaming URA even when they did not allocate resources to the different government institutions. This in most cases affected URA’s tax target.
“facts between tax accountability and tax compliance, the first statement appreciating the taxpayer recognizes that every Ugandan is actually a taxpayer. This is because he can be a taxpayer directly or indirectly.” Said, Vicent Seruuma – Spokesperson URA.
But in an effort to account for what they collected, URA organized a tax payer’s appreciation where the public would have a chance to question the government institutions’ expenditure. “We will have an opportunity for the government agencies to exhibit the goods and services that they provide. We will also have an opportunity to invite our taxpayers who have made significant contributions in revenue contribution according to the different sectors for the financial year 2016/2017.” Said the URA Spokesperson.
“They collect your taxes, they handover the taxes to the entire government. The entire government through different agencies spend the money. So our partnership therefore with URA is to enforce public accountability such that we can cause about taxpayer appreciation of why they pay taxes.” Said, Frank Tumwebaze – Minister of ICT and National Guidance. Also, taxpayers would be guided on how to access government services and promote growth services such as buy Uganda build Uganda.
