Entebbe got a month’s reprieve after relative calm returned to the area following a string of murders of women that begun in June. But the killings appear to have resumed after the body of a 38-year-old woman Harriet Nantongo was found in Bukolwa in Nkumba on Tuesday. A day later, another body of Sarah Nelima was recovered from Mpala in Katabi Town Council.
A youth was arrested from within the crowd that had visited the scene of the crime to help the Police with the investigations. The circumstances surrounding his arrest remained unknown. The government in its statement to the Parliament in early September said the murders were connected to the secret society of a cult called Illuminate a view that received a lot of criticism. “Some suspects were found with forms given to them by Katongole to illicit in Illuminate what is commonly known as devil worship.” Said, Jeje Ogong – Minister for Internal Affairs.
Recently, President Yoweri Museveni also broke his silence on the murders blaming it on the laxity of the security. “There has been laxity but we have focused on bringing these murders to an end.” Said, President Yoweri Museveni. The body of the latest victim Nelima was found about 200 meters from Mpala Police Post. “The woman was killed near a Police Post but the officers are always there relaxed.” Residents blamed the Police while local leaders called for a curfew to be implemented. “The Police mostly patrol the Highway instead of the villages.” “They should deploy in Entebbe as it is in Kampala.” “Let’s move back to curfew, let the Police arrest women who move in wee hours and release them in the morning.” “If all women had the same jobs, a curfew would apply.”
Some sources in the Police said they had noticed the pattern in the victims of Katabi, most of them went missing after answering a phone call and all of them did casual jobs. The insurgency in killings brought new questions. were the individuals who made calls to these women connected to the murders? why Katabi and how were they able to elude the combined force of security agencies deployed in the area?
