George Bagonza a member of the Bamugemereire Land Commission found himself in the middle of the Land wrangle at Rwamutunga village in Hoima district after he witnessed a one Nelson Atiki tell the Commission that at the height of the Land wrangle in 2015, Bagonza presented himself as a middle man in resolving the matter. Atiki said that Bagonza’s efforts and interests to resolve the matter ended quietly when one of the parties, a one Joshua Tibagwa started accusing him of receiving money in form of bribes to settle the said matter. “He talked to Mr. Bagonza and he talked about the alliance they had with the company and the advantages of that project, then asked me to mobilize my people and get other people who are connected, if we can agree on how to sort out our differences but immediately Bagonza engaged us in a meeting I even have minutes for that. Physically George was not there but he coordinated it but the Tibagwas raised a lot of noise that George has wanted to get some money from this thing we had to stop there.” Said, Nelson Atiki.
Because of this conflict of interest, Bagonza was forced out of the Commission and his seat remained empty throughout the entire hearing. Bagonza was only seen loitering in the compound. The land in question was 700 hectares of land in Rwamutunga village where over 225 families were unlawfully evicted by a one Joshua Tibagwa in 2014 with the help of then RDC Ambrose Tumwesigye. The Land Probe Committee pitched camp in Hoima following numerous complaints of land wrangles and unlawful evictions in the Albertine region.
