Lwemegiyo Mukundika and Festus Muhindo lost their two children to the floods. Walter Kambale was four years old and his sister Nyelli Nyakima was seven years. “The floods caused the collapse of the door and carried off the children.” The children were pupils of Tadoba Primary School in Kyaminyoku Kasese Municipality. The third child Edwin Muhindo, three years old. “There was a child who came from another place, another house to come and just play with other children and until the rain was pouring, they had to be in one house. And that’s how it came to be that the two families lost the people.” Mukundika said he was working when he received a telephone call with bad news. “I had a call from my brother calling me that Lwemegiyo your children are already dead by the heavy rain that has rained.” Said the father of the deceased children.
Neighbors could only rescue one but also a daughter of Mukundiku’s and the child was admitted at St. Paul Health Center in Kasese Municipality. The residents were surprised that the day’s downpour caused it to over flow. “By the effect that they have come from up, those trees there they would have been washed but you see the origin is just here.” However, some residents attributed the floods to witchcraft and attacked Edriano Masereka, a resident of Kilembe and beat him to death, the Police confirmed this incident. “It is alleged that he has a garden and people would come and steal his crops and he had warned people that he is going to do something against those who steal his crops. It is alleged that he went to Nyaruguru and got a witch doctor called Jelle Tembo and he was seen planting whatever witchcraft around his garden and immediately he did that, a heavy downpour came and this heavy downpour washed away those three children.” Said, Asan Kasingye – Police Spokesperson.
