Fuel Truck Drivers Go Off Duty As Kenya Goes To Polls

As Kenya goes to polls early next week Uganda was importing huge volumes of fuel to safe guard against shortages which could emerge in the aftermath of the elections. David Olumbe Sidonyi the Manager Busia Inland Container said that since the week started, several fuel tankers had arrived and would not return to the neighboring country until the elections were over.

Some drivers said they had been waylaid and their vehicles stoned by criminals who wanted to steal the fuel. “The traders could have stopped, they stopped their time to work now. They will not even last a week but this one week we have received a little more. Most of the fuel tankers that are coming in this week may not return to Kenya until they are sure of peace in Kenya. Actually, some of them might pass or take the Tanzania route.”
