Five perish in an accident at Maya along Kampala-Masaka highway

Shock, grief and worried faces were visible as one got closer to the fateful scene of the accident. A Fuso truck with registration number UBA 299T from Kampala was said to have rammed into a commuter taxi with registration number UAF 233N from Mpigi killing the driver and another three people on spot. By the time we arrived at the scene, a Good Samaritan had offered to rush the injured to the hospital. One of the passengers who had just disembarked the taxi gave his account of events. “It was full because I was seated next to the conductor. When I got out, it just proceeded. Only one girl aged nine and the baby were removed alive. The others were taken in a critical condition.”

After about two hours of waiting for help, agitated onlookers stopped an ambulance that was passing by which took only one body away. Two Police trucks later arrived and felled the remaining bodies away.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Fuso was later found by the Police at a nearby clinic in the area. Traffic Police Spokesperson Charles Ssebambulidde attributed the accident to bad driving. “Four people died on spot; three females and one male. Then, the six victims were picked and rushed to Mulago Hospital, unfortunately, one died on the way to the hospital.” Said, Charles Ssebambulidde.
