Mengo Hospital Surgical Deaths On The Spot

The umbrella organization that regulates the practice of medicine and dentistry in the country has set up a committee to start investigations into the deaths of more than 10 people including former legislator Issa Kikungwe after they underwent surgical procedures at an organized medical camp at Mengo Hospital. “Now on our pledge is an investigation on the occurrences that occurred in Mengo Hospital, we have put a team together and we are in the process of conducting that.” Said, Prof. Joel Okullo – Chairman UMDPC.

The Council has finished assessing medical reports of all patients alive and deceased that took part in the medical camp and the next step for the team is to investigate the doctors that took part in the exercise. This is to be backed by an 8-man Committee that has been inaugurated that is supposed to oversee the operations of the Medical Council. Meanwhile, the Minister of Health General Duties, Sarah Opendi also announced that samples from the suspected Nakaseke Congo Hymnologic Fever patients came ou t negative ending days of tension between the Ministry and Nakaseke legislators. “We don’t have an outbreak of the Crimean Congo Viral Hymnologic Fever. There have been reports even yesterday on the floor of the house, a Member of Parliament saying 8 people have died in Nakaseke, that information is not correct. The Ministry of Health has always informed the country whenever we have outbreaks and there is no reason why we shouldn’t inform the country if this outbreak is real. But all the tests we have conducted from the Uganda Virus Research Institute are negative.” Said, Hon. Sarah Opendi – General Duties, MOH.
