Mulago Causality Victims, Many Darunk

To some, the prize of celebrating Christmas was higher than they would have expected since their lives might change forever unfortunately on a negative note. Spot checks into the Causality Ward at Mulago Referral Hospital, scenes of people in critical pain were all over. Different kinds of people with different kinds of accidents were seen going through a lot of pain. Nurses on duty were up and down trying to attend to everyone with the hope of reducing the pain. One unidentified patient, however, could not even withstand the drip, not even the cannula. One in handcuffs was allegedly beaten nearly to death for allegedly murdering his wife while another of about 15 years old was beaten after he was suspected to have stolen. Children and adults all in one ward crying out for help, some did not even know how they got in here. “By the time I tried to stand, my leg couldn’t support me but I knew I was fine until I failed to walk. I was brought here.” “He was found on the road after being knocked by the motorbike and rushed to the hospital but since Sunday, he has never talked until now.”Nbs tv spoke to Sarah Koberawo the Deputy In-charge in this Ward who confirmed that since last night, the number was overwhelming compared to the same period last year. “The main cases are assault, I think you saw where I took you to get information; assaults are there while drunk even those who were knocked while drunk, I saw those people.” Said, Sarah Koberawo – Deputy In-charge, Causality Ward. The caution was however to avoid any incidents which could lead to such situations, especially in the Festive Season. “When they are drunk not to move, let them stay at home. And if you don’t have anything which is making you move; me I think I can advise them to stay at home.”

Some cases remain unknown but according to Koberawo, they would continue to be attended to until their people showed up. “You see these cases, we cater for them; we dress them, we attend to them until their attendants come.”
